The Honcho represents a first for Alpha Angler.
While developing the next generation of rods, Alpha Angler president Jake Boomer discovered a groundbreaking blank technology that immediately stood out for one reason—its exceptional power-to-weight ratio. It had the strength required for big glide baits, yet remained remarkably light and responsive. From the start, it was clear this blank had the potential to change what anglers expect from a true big bait rod.
To bring that vision to life, Jake made the decision to pursue the first collaboration in Alpha Angler history with Josh Pladies, founder of Clutch Swimbait Co. and one of the most respected anglers in the glide bait world.
Together they set out to design what they believed could be the most refined glide bait rod available.
The result is the Alpha Angler Honcho.
Built on an advanced carbon blank platform, the Honcho delivers one of the most impressive power-to-weight ratios ever produced in a swimbait rod. It has the backbone to confidently cast baits up to 7 ounces, yet remains balanced and light enough to fish all day without fatigue.
The taper was engineered specifically for glide baits—loading smoothly to launch large baits with distance and accuracy, while maintaining the responsive tip needed for precise bait manipulation. Just as important, that same taper transitions into powerful mid-section control, helping anglers keep fish pinned and land more of the bites that matter.
Every element of the Honcho was designed with efficiency in mind. The handle length was carefully dialed for optimal leverage and casting rhythm, giving competitive anglers the control and repeatable accuracy needed when every cast counts.

Understanding this challenge is why Alpha enlisted Josh Pladies of Clutch Swimbaits, which is the first collaboration in Alpha's fifteen year history.
The Honcho was repetitively tested and revised until the Alpha Logo had a place on the blank.
